MFabric beta updates

Release notes and security advisories. Nothing else.

The peer beta is available now. More preview lanes will roll out carefully: bigger-model serving, stronger remote workers, distributed training, context retention, and fuller host setup. Join the update list and we will email when a release is ready to try — and if a security fix ever ships, this is how you hear about it first.

The contract: release notes and security advisories only. No tracking pixels, never shared or sold, unsubscribe with one reply. The list is not tied to an in-product account or identity.

What shipped, version by version

This history describes the files people could actually download. Internal runtime experiments and unsigned package candidates are intentionally excluded.

Current signed release v0.1.3 2026.07.08.guide-sync-r4

First-run polish and a package that matches its guide

Includes every change from v0.1.2, with the final documentation and console-state corrections packaged into the signed installer and verified zip.

  • The bundled guide now matches the live guide and the behavior in this exact download.
  • The model-loading status no longer remains stuck at Starting when the console has already moved to another state.
  • The Windows installer is freshly signed, and both current downloads have published SHA-256 fingerprints.
v0.1.2 2026.07.08.stranger-fixes-r3

Clean-install fixes across Windows, macOS, and Linux

  • doctor reports checks as they finish instead of appearing frozen during a cold dependency import.
  • Fixed a false Windows state-directory failure and added the missing huggingface_hub check used by starter-model setup.
  • Background startup no longer claims success before the host is actually reachable.
  • Added clearer extraction, port, Ctrl+C, and macOS firewall guidance at the point where each issue occurs.
  • Suppressed the known LibreSSL compatibility warning without hiding unrelated warnings.
v0.1.1 2026.07.08.onboarding-r2

Private chat that works from an empty install

  • Added Get a starter model when no model is on disk; the roughly 1 GB download starts only after the user clicks.
  • Bring-your-own-key chat can work before a local model is loaded, while local and helper routes remain gated normally.
  • Added the on-device privacy meter, answer provenance, and downloadable receipt with no provider key inside.
  • Added the mfab CLI to the zip, including doctor, host lifecycle, model, peer, chat, and manual update commands.
  • Added clearer capability tiers and first-run guidance, including the guide's What we verify section.
v0.1.0 2026.07.02.prefill-on-2big2fit

Public-beta foundation

  • Signed Windows host/helper role picker, local pairing approval, peer revocation, and manual update checking.
  • Local model discovery, loading, chat, and explicit allowed-folder selection through the host console.
  • Local usage receipts, capability cards, a guided console tour, and a plain-language user guide.
  • Introduced the 2Big2Fit and context retention names as opt-in previews with capacity and continuity boundaries attached.
  • Corrected guide encoding and made the update check refuse accidental downgrade prompts.

The build name records release-tree validation work. This public package continued to use the standard local-model path and did not ship the private native acceleration kernels.

Current boundary: v0.1.3 does not include the private native runtime acceleration program or the unsigned self-contained macOS and Linux candidates. Advanced previews remain opt-in and fall back to the standard route when their requirements are not met.

What we will send

  • New signed Windows installer and peer package releases, including role-picker updates for host/controller and helper/peer setup.
  • Experimental feature openings for bigger-model serving, remote workers, and distributed training.
  • Setup notes for Windows, macOS, Linux, and trusted GPU hosts.
  • Measured public numbers with the boundaries attached, so you know what was proved and what is still beta.

How updates work today

No silent auto-update. The current beta is installed or updated by downloading a signed installer or verified zip. On Windows, first launch asks whether this machine is the host/controller or a helper peer; host/controller opens the local join-link and approval console.

Each release will publish a SHA-256 fingerprint so you can check that the file you downloaded is genuine.

The host console now includes a manual update check. It reads a public manifest and shows the signed installer link; it does not upload device telemetry, peer lists, model lists, or local paths.

For now, the list is intentionally simple: email [email protected], and we will add you manually. That avoids adding a third-party form or analytics tool before the beta needs one.

Distribution policy: MFabric remains free during public beta, but it is closed-source software. A download does not require an account, and the manual beta package is not an open-source or redistribution grant. New self-contained platform packages are linked only after platform signing and release checks pass.
